As the Lord’s Table is set before us today, we are reminded that God provides food for the poor. Not only does God care about the physical poor, but also the spiritual poor, poor sinners such as us. In His great compassion for poor and needy sinners like us, God has provided for us and our needs through Jesus Christ. Christ has given us Himself – His own flesh to be eaten and His own blood to be drunk. In so partaking of Christ by faith, we eat and drink unto eternal life, that though our flesh may fail, we shall never die.
When we eat and drink physical food and water, we will hunger and thirst again. But when we eat and drink the body and blood of our Lord, by faith, we will never hunger or thirst again. There is more than enough of Christ to fill and satisfy all who come to Him, forever. So come and welcome to Jesus Christ.
