God is our refuge and strength,
a very present[b] help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah (Psalm 46:1-3)
O Lord God, you are our only refuge and strength, for there is no refuge and help in trouble like you. You are such a refuge that though the earth give way and tremble around us, your presence takes all fear away from your people who trust in you. As we come into your presence to worship you today, Lord, give us courage like that. May our hearts not tremble as the earth around us, but be firm and steadfast in your Son Jesus who is our ever present help in trouble.
Lord, we confess that we are weak and needy sinners, completely helpless without you as our refuge and strength. We ask that you would forgive our sins through Jesus your Son, and supply our every need through Him, because of your abundant mercy.
May your presence be such a bulwark and defense around us, that our enemies look upon us and behold the works you have done through your Son, that they may be still and know that you are God.
We give you thanks that you are with us now as we come before you in worship and praise. Minister to us by your Spirit and remove all fear from our hearts that we may be your faithful servants.
