As we come to the table today, let us remember that the Lord’s Supper is a participation in Christ. It is a fellowship meal with Jesus. Now, this necessarily implies that Jesus is not dead, but He is risen. A dead Savior, still in His grave, could not be present with us, and thus we would eat and drink together in vain. But it is not in vain, for Christ is risen indeed and His spirit is present with us as He sits enthroned on high. As bread and wine nourishes the body and gives life, we are reminded that the spirit of the living and resurrected God nourishes our spirits and gives life, as one day, we too will rise from the dead in our bodies to be like Him as He is.
