Glimmer

January 4, 2021 by Joshua Jenkins Leave a Comment

Thus far, I have posted two book reviews for two books we will be giving away at our God and Government Conference – Bringing Back the Black Robed Regiment and The Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrates. I am pleased to include in those book giveaways, a third and final book, Glimmer by Gayla Prewitt. This book is different than the other two. Glimmer is a short fiction book based on a screenplay written by the same author. The screenplay is currently being made into a movie, to my knowledge.

The plot revolves around a young mother who has visions or memories of a daughter she had, but no one else seems to remember. Is she crazy, or is everybody in on it? When I heard about it, the story idea intrigued me and I knew I wanted to read it. Maybe it was just me, but as a father of two young boys, most of the book was gut wrenching with the thought of losing my boys. I found myself just wanting to go hug mine tight, yet kept turning the pages.

The author’s intent was to write a movie/book that reinforces the value of life and the Christian worldview that children are a blessing from the Lord. This is certainly done with success.

There are certain parts of the book that you can tell is written like a screenplay, where the narration seems more like instructions for actors. This only makes me want to see the film. In under a hundred pages, it is very readable. It is the type of book that leaves you thinking about it for a while after you are done. With some good moments of suspense, and other emotional moments, it’s a good read that leaves an impact on you.

I am hopeful that this book will get in the right hands of the right people to save some lives from the slaughter of abortion. I am a fan of running all kinds of cultural plays against this great evil that has become so common place in our day. May this book work to that end, to rescue those who are being led to the slaughter.

Gayla Prewitt has been kind to send us a copy of the book to giveaway with the others at our conference. She is local to the Southwest Missouri area and Lord willing will be with us at the conference. Can’t wait to see you all there.
