Every Tuesday morning I have breakfast with my friend Jeff. I always leave those breakfast full of thoughts about Jesus. God has used Jeff in my life in a great way. We are currently going chapter by chapter through a book about Jesus. This morning we talked about Jesus and his scandalous freedom. Jesus freedom was/is the truest and best kind of freedom. What is interesting about Jesus and his freedom is that people were almost always offended by it. Now Jesus did not use the liberty for the purpose of offending, but his free and open freedom almost always was offensive. Jesus freedom was so powerful that it set some people free and so scandalous that some reached for more shackles. Some here are some takeaways for me from this morning.
1. Christian liberty is as much about abstaining as it is about partaking.
2. Christian liberty is offensive by itself. Christian liberty does not give me freedom to be offensive.
3. Following our Savior Jesus’ example will cause a stir. That’s okay.
4. Following our Savior Jesus’ example to cause a stir. Not okay.
5. Jesus freedom in his Pastoral Ministry is incredibly freeing for me today.
These are some of the reasons I like my Tue mornings with Jeff.
