2 Peter 1:2 “May grace and peace be multiplied
to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord”
A few days ago I got the privilege of hearing Todd Hawk preach. His selected text was 2 Pet 1:1-15. Although I had to leave a little early, the sermon was fantastic. For two days now I have been thinking about verse 2. Todd brought out the truth in the verse and it has gripped me since then. So here was the main thought from the passage: As we grow in our knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, grace and peace is multiplied to us. This is one reason bible study is so important. As we study God by studying the bible we learn about God. In the process of that study the multiplication of Grace and Peace is given to us. So in a way, theological pursuits are a means by which the grace of God is communicated to us. So by grace and empowered by the Spirit let us use our minds and dive in to the study of the Godhead.
C.H. Spurgeon
“It has been said by someone that ‘The proper study of mankind is man.’ I will not oppose the idea, but I believe it is equally true that the proper study of God’s elect is God; the proper study of a Christian is the Godhead. The highest science, the loftiest speculation, the mightiest philosophy, which can ever engage the attention of a child of God, is the name, the nature, the person, the work, the doings, and the existence of the great God who he call his Father. There is something exceedingly improving to the mind in a contemplation of the Divinity.”
