Ecclesiastes 5:1-5
How To Approach God: Law and Gospel
Intro: Law and Gospel
Saved by grace kept by law?
Most everyone knows we are not saved by works, but many think we are kept by works.
Is your status with God based on your performance?
Is God mad or disappointed in you?
How can you know you are right with God?
Vs 1: Grace Pointer: Hearing is better than false sacrifice
House of God? Covenantal Change
God’s presence with an open ear is better than being “Busy for God”
Solomon pointing us beyond
Vs 2-5 The Law
Do not speak before thinking
Even your heart…. Don’t be quick to question God.
God is God and you are not.
Do what you tell God you are going to do.
Problem? We are Quick Talkers and or Vow Breakers
Biblically and Experientially we know we utterly fail at the law.
Even as Christians with the Holy Spirit we still fall miserably short.
Matt 22:34-39 Love God Love Others
Rom 7:7 “What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin.”
The Law always shows us our sinfulness.
The Gospel
Matt 5:17-20 Christ Fulfilled the Law
Until All Is Accomplished
5:48 Perfection Required
Hebrews 10:1-14
Vs 1 Law can’t make perfect
Vs 11 Daily sins. The law can’t help.
Vs 14 FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!
Gal 2:15-21 Today is about Christ in Me. Never leave Christ
– Stands by faith not by law
Jesus is the Answer of Ecclesiastes
Everything under the sun is meaningless.
Only eternal things satisfy.
Our work for God falls short.
God’s work for us changes everything.
The Gospel Changes Everything
Jesus is the great vow keeper.
He has not failed the Father.
Jesus never spoke hastily through mouth or in heart.
This changes us!!!!
