June 17, 2013 by Jared Sparks Leave a Comment

These is my notes from a sermon I preached last night. May not make a ton of sense, but I thought I would post them anyways.
Colossians 2:1-7
The Centrality of the Christ of All Treasures
Intro: Colossians: Hey Church, Christ is Awesome
– Let me tell you about Jesus
– The Holy Spirit through Paul is Glorifying the Son Jesus Christ
– Paul wants hearts captivated by Christ, not by the law.
Vs 1-2 Paul’s Struggle/Desire for the Churches
– Heart’s encouraged:
– By being knit together in love
– To/So reach all
– Mind Full assurance of understanding and knowledge
– God’s mystery, which is Christ?
– The church isn’t currently there.
– The church knows Christ, but they are not captivated by Him.
Vs 3 The Shoreline of Treasures
– In Whom
– Beach, Metal Detector and Discovering Treasures
– ALL Treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ
Treasures as well look Within Jesus the Greatest Treasure
– Unconditional love
– Eternal Joy: He is the Greatest Treasure
– Courageous obedience
– Sacrifice for others
– Double Union
– Sanctifying Power
– Unifying Power: Christ makes a family near and far
Vs 4-5 Deluded by Plausible Distractions from Christ
– Christ but: Politics, Church Methods, My Preferences, Children
– The promise of other shores
– Many people: Christ is not enough, look over here.
– Have you been duped?
– What gets you the most excited in life? Jesus or something else?
Vs 6-7 Therefore Because of that Christ is Central
– Walk as you received: by Faith in Christ
– Received: Christ was all/Central
– Walk: Christ is all/Central
– Result? Rooted/Built Up/Established
– Abounding in Thanksgiving.
Christ as Central brings
– Everyday thankful
– Nothing to thank yourself for.
        – Peace, Joy, purpose
