Titus 2:15-3:8
Devoted to Good Works

Intro: To Christians, For a Purpose
– Vs 1:1-2 Knowledge to Godliness
– Vs 3:8 Insist on these things: so
Vs 2:15 Previous Things to Some New Things
– Things to declare
– Exhort and Rebuke with all authority
– Don’t let people disregard you
Vs 3:1-2 Commands to Insist On
– Submissive, Obedient, Ready for every good work, Speak evil of no-one, Avoid  quarreling, Be gentle, show perfect courtesy toward all people.
– 7 Commands to insist on.
– A Christian has attraction to the law.
  – Problem?: The commands don’t carry power.
Vs 3 Bad News before Good News
– Remember you could not keep the law.
– You were all lawbreakers
– On your own you were lost
Vs 4-7 Good News! Declarations
– God Our Savior Appeared
– He Saved us!
– Not because of anything right in us. NOT BECAUSE OF US
– Not because of our obedience today or ever.
– Our works have nothing to do with our standing with God
– According to His mercy.
By?
– Regeneration
– Justification. Double Imputation/Union
Vs 8: Insist on These Things
– So Christians will be careful to devote themselves to good works.
– This is excellent and profitable for people.

Power to be devoted to good works flows from the Gospel not the law. You need this Good news this morning. Motivation to obey flowing from gratitude.

Never trust in your ability to obey as your hope of salvation. Today? If you are a Christian your standing with God is based on Jesus not you.

Non-Christian? Do you believe Jesus? Repent and Believe in Him. He saves you, you don’t save you.
