Nebuchadnezzar on the Power of God to Humble the Proud

December 8, 2014 by Jared Sparks Leave a Comment

Daniel 4:37 “Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just: and those who walk in pride he is able to humble”

This is the same King of Babylon who has just declared in vs 30 “Is not this great Babylon, which I have built by my mighty power as a royal residence and for the glory of my majesty?” God is able to humble even this king.

So how did God humble king Neb? Dan 5 gives us a little insight and commentary on Neb wilderness time. Chapter 5 introduces us to King Neb’s son Belshazzar. In this chapter Daniel reminds this new wicked king what God did to humble his father and predecessor . Dan 5:21 “He was driven from among the children of mankind, and his mind was made like that of a beast, and his dwelling was with the wild donkey. He was fed grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until he knew that the Most High God rules the kingdom of mankind and sets over it whom he will.”

Our God is sovereign over even wicked kings and he is able to humble the proud. For this I am thankful.
