Guns and Bible Reading

January 12, 2013 by Jared Sparks Leave a Comment

Sex, medication, alcohol, guns, and bible reading, have something in common. All of these things can be used in right and wrong ways. When these things are used the right way it is easy to forget they can be used in a wrong way. Likewise it is easy to forget that these things can be used rightly when we see them being used in a wrong way. In my last post I highlighted the common misuse of the spiritual disciples.  Those uncovering the biblical reality of Gospel-Centered Sanctification must be careful to not make the mistake of discarding diligence in daily disciplines simply because they can be misused. As many make the mistake of blaming sex, alcohol, or guns we to can make the mistake of thinking a diligent pursuit of Christ through the disciplines can somehow be a bad thing. Believing and practicing the spiritual disciplines as if they themselves are the point is a tragic error. However, being lazy in the practice of the disciplines reveals error and sin as well. The answer for Christians is simply to understand and practice the disciplines in the right way.
That’s what my next post will be about.
