How many people do you know that regularly talk about the importance of discipleship? How many people do you know who can tell you the people that they are personally and intentionally discipling? I have been a Christian now for 25 yrs. During those years I have been a members of several different churches. Over all the years and with all the churches I have only met one pastor who could actually tell the anxious inquirer who he was actually discipling. How about you? Who are you discipling?
Oh, btw in the hope that you and I will feel convicted not condemned, there was a man named Jesus. He perfectly discipled people as the perfect pastor and perfect Christian. He lived His life as a substitute life in the place of people like us who like to talk about discipling more than doing it. He died in the place of vain talkers like you and I. Oh and not only that, he promises to pick up our slack and does wild things like “Loves the church and gives Himself us for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish”. This is why Christians still grow even while we just talk a lot, because Jesus actually grows and sactifies his bride. So how about us? Let the vision of Jesus as Savior give us fuel to follow Jesus our example. Who are you discipling?
