Community Exegesis

May 8, 2012 by Jared Sparks Leave a Comment

My pastor Michael Nave introduced me to community exegesis about 3 years ago. What I mean by that is that before any sermon is preached at Cornerstone church, the text has been studied together by a group of at least four pastors. After seeing the difference from individual exegesis compared to community, I have to say that I will never go back. Here are several reasons why in no particular order.
1. We are a group that shares historical grammatical hermetic.
2. Our eisesgesis is limited.
3. More faithful exegesis happens.
4. Holy Spirit brings unity and passion for God’s Word between our pastors.
5. Cooperate learning takes place as we all get to humbly share knowledge with each other.
6. We get better clarity on the leading of the Holy Spirit for our church.
7. Our pastors get to agree in prayer before we dive into the passage.

This process has truly helped me to understand God’s word better and preach His word more faithful. If you are a preacher out there and you read this, give it a shot.
