Commanded Responses

March 8, 2013 by Jared Sparks Leave a Comment

1 Thess 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
I love this little verse. What is God’s will for me? Here ya go. Notice how all three of these commands are commanded responses. All three of these imperatives are a produced by a proper response to the Gospel. How do I rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances? These commands presupposes that there is something to continually rejoice about, a God who is ever present, and something/someone to be thankful for in every circumstance. These verses are not simply command but commanded responses to what God has done in Christ. By God’s grace thought the power of the Holy Spirit, dive into the greatness of Jesus and your response to Him will be rejoicing, praying, and thankfulness.
