9 thoughts on Romans 9

April 30, 2014 by Jared Sparks Leave a Comment

Every year I read through the bible. This morning I read Romans 9. Here are a few brief thoughts about the chapter.

  1. It is a very clear chapter.
  2. It is a very hard chapter.
  3. If your reading does not lead you to ask “Is God just?” and “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?” Then you are reading it wrong.
  4. Answers to those questions? God is just and stop talking back to God, this is the way it is (Jared’s paraphrase).
  5. The chapter has a sting to it.
  6. I am so thankful that salvation depends on God’s mercy instead of my will and exertion.
  7. It is completely compatible with Rom 10:13 “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” I don’t understand how it is compatible but it is because the bible says so.
  8. It means what it says. Don’t be like John Wesley who said “Whatever it means it can’t mean that”.
  9. You must get past the questions raised in the chapter and cling to the answers given. God is just. You can trust him. Stop talking back.
