{"id":183,"date":"2013-07-17T20:36:59","date_gmt":"2013-07-17T20:36:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thegospelplant.wordpress.com\/?p=183"},"modified":"2013-07-17T20:36:59","modified_gmt":"2013-07-17T20:36:59","slug":"pay-your-way-out-of-hell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/themajestysmen.com\/thegospelplant\/pay-your-way-out-of-hell\/","title":{"rendered":"Pay your way out of Hell"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">\u00a0INDULGENCES<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Saw this and was appalled \u00a0 \u00a0 http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2013\/jul\/16\/vatican-indulgences-pope-francis-tweets?CMP=twt_gu<\/p>\n<p>These are a way by which punishment for sin is reduced through a person&#8217;s own sufferings.\u00a0An indulgence removes the time needed to be spent in purgatory. \u00a0It has become a loose doctrine to some Roman catholics and they teach two kinds of indulgences:\u00a0 <em>partial<\/em> and <em>plenary<\/em>.\u00a0 A <em>partial<\/em> indulgence removes part of the punishment of sins.\u00a0 A <em>plenary<\/em> indulgence removes all of the punishment of sins.\u00a0\u00a0 Granting an indulgence of a certain number of days or years means that is how many days or years is removed from the\u00a0time of punishment a person must undergo in purgatory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Is this biblical?\u00a0 Not at all. Its an awful, cruel and false teaching a way used to control people.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\"><strong>But how does a person cleanse himself of his own sins? \u00a0The fact is we cant, its impossible.\u00a0 If there were a means by which we could cleanse ourselves of our own sins, then God would have provided that. Its all about God&#8217;s\u00a0undeserved\u00a0Grace for His creation&#8230;. us.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\"><em>21\u00a0I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law,\u00a0Christ died for nothing! <strong>Galatians 2:21<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">This is saying that we are saved through our <strong>faith<\/strong> in Jesus, <strong>not<\/strong> by works, sufferings or payments to appease him, <strong>Jesus did it<\/strong> for you and me. \u00a0This faith in Jesus then leads us (sinners) to live a changed life that God approves, that brings glory to him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\"><strong>Being made right with God is not by our suffering, but by Christ&#8217;s.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\"><em>Surely he took up our pain<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and bore our suffering,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>yet we considered him punished by God,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0stricken by him, and afflicted.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>5\u00a0But he was pierced\u00a0for our transgressions,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0he was crushed\u00a0for our iniquities;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>the punishment\u00a0that brought us peace\u00a0was on him,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and by his wounds\u00a0we are healed.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>6\u00a0We all, like sheep, have gone astray,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0each of us has turned to our own way;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>and the\u00a0Lord\u00a0has laid on him<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the iniquity\u00a0of us all.<strong> Isaiah 53:4-6<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\"><strong>Theres one way your sins are atoned for and thats through the work of Jesus on the cross, he died as a substitute for our sin, resurrecting triumphantly over Satan, sin and death.
