In 1 Samuel 2v25 you will find a stunning sentence that participates in a greater theme throughout the Bible – the will of man and the sovereignty of God. Here’s the verse: “But they would not listen to the voice of their father, for it was the will of the Lord to put them to death.”<\/em><\/p>\n

This verse is speaking about the evilness of Eli’s sons. Go read the chapter to refresh yourself.<\/p>\n

This is one of those verses that makes me love the Bible. I love it because it reveals a big, sovereign God in the everyday workings of human beings. Some people like to pit God’s sovereignty against the will of man, as if they could not be congruent. But the Bible does no such thing. In the Bible, the will of man is consistently evil; and God is consistently sovereign.<\/p>\n

Man’s actions matter, because they really do them, and have real consequences (like death, for Eli’s sons). God’s divine will, will be done, unhampered by man’s will. God is the author of the story of human history. Men are characters in the story who do real things, as the author authors them to.<\/p>\n

Is 1 Samuel 2v25 implying “double predestination?” So it seems. Whether it is or isn’t, this is a verse in the Bible you cannot ignore.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
