He was a chief tax collector and was rich.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-25725\" class=\"text Luke-19-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>And\u00a0he was seeking to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was small in stature.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-25726\" class=\"text Luke-19-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>So he ran on ahead and climbed up into\u00a0a sycamore tree to see him, for he was about to pass that way.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-25727\" class=\"text Luke-19-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cZacchaeus, hurry and come down, for\u00a0I must stay at your house today.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-25728\" class=\"text Luke-19-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>So he hurried and came down and\u00a0received him joyfully.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-25729\" class=\"text Luke-19-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>And when they saw it, they all\u00a0grumbled, \u201cHe has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-25730\" class=\"text Luke-19-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, \u201cBehold, Lord, the half of my goods\u00a0I give to the poor. And if I have\u00a0defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it\u00a0fourfold.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-25731\" class=\"text Luke-19-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus said to him,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cToday salvation has come to this house, since\u00a0he also is a son of Abraham.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-25732\" class=\"text Luke-19-10\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.\u201d (Luke 19:1-10)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Zacchaeus wants to see, but knows that he can\u2019t. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The crowd thinks they can see but can\u2019t.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jesus sees, even though the crowd thinks He can\u2019t.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Matthew Henry says that Christ, \u201cbrings His own welcome.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Rich Irony: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In OT, Israel grumbled on account of the giants in the land. In the NT, in this story, Israel grumbles on account of the little man in the land, the anti-giant. The problem is not the size of the \u201cenemy\u201d but our own hearts and selves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jesus saves the worst of sinners. The most despicable of characters. Don\u2019t be a scoffer and grumbler like the crowd when Jesus does this. But know, it includes you too. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Matthew Henry says, \u201cZacchaeus is declared now to be a happy man.\u201d \u201cWhat Christ had done to make him, in particular, a happy man, was consonant to the great design and intention of his coming into the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Click HERE for sermon audio &nbsp; He entered Jericho and was passing through.\u00a02\u00a0And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus.
