Wisdom, Legacy, and Happiness <\/span><\/b><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
Intro: The Problem and the Experiment of Solomon <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n
\n
    \n
  • Everything under the sun is meaningless<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Let me show you<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Under the sun wisdom can answer the biggest questions of life<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Partying, Hard work, Leisure, can not satisfy Heart <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • What about wise living? Can that satisfy? <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • What about living for a legacy? <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Solomon will bring us to God this morning. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Happiness is possible in this life. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                                                                                                                   <\/span><\/u><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n

    Vs 12-14a Solomon tests something more noble “Wise Living” <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n

      \n
    • Different Wisdom than before. Wise Living. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Solomon discovery Good Choices are better than Bad Choices<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Gain in wise living.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Sounds like the “I started living Christian” conversion. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Sounds like the “I started going to church” conversion.  <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • We know we are not saved by good works but how about “Wise living\/good Choices”?<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      Vs 14b-15 Wise Living fails to satisfy. The Critique of American “Christianity” <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/div>\n

        \n
      • Same event to both the wise and the fool. 1. Death 2. Life’s Difficulties <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      • What is the point?<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      • The more noble the false gospel the more seductive it is.  <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      • Many think they have “Tried” Christianity because they went to church and stopped sleeping around.  <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      • Consequences of this false Gospel called “Wise Living”<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      • \n
          <\/p>\n
        • No freedom. “Am I living wise enough?”<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Judgmentalism “Other Christians don’t live as well as I do”<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Self-Worship “Trusting in my living” <\/span><\/li>\n
        • It will not satisfy. <\/span><\/li>\n
        • It causes to to look away from Christ.  <\/span><\/li>\n

          <\/span><\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

        • Ways we propagate this false Gospel? <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • \n
            <\/p>\n
          • Promoting the law more than gospel. <\/span><\/li>\n
          • Are individuals saved by works? How about nations? <\/span><\/li>\n
          • Never calling people to repent of “their” righteousness <\/span><\/li>\n
          • Measuring our spirituality by things we do or don’t do. <\/span><\/li>\n
          • When we challenge Christians to work harder for Christ without including “It is finished”<\/span><\/li>\n
          • We get more excited about the law than the gospel. <\/span><\/li>\n
          • When we act as if the gospel is for “Them”  <\/span><\/li>\n

            <\/span><\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Vs 16-17 You Will Die and Be Forgotten <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

              \n
            • If you live wisely you will be forgotten<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
            • If you live foolishly you will be forgotten <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
            • Wise Living does not satisfy. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              Vs 18-23 Legacy: We can take nothing we worked for with us <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n

              • After everything we have so wisely worked for we have to leave it. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
              • We leave it to people who have not worked for it. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
              • They might not ever care! <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
              • Most Pickers have no family who wants there stuff. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
              • vs 21<\/b> I have to give this to Rehaboam!<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
              • vs 22<\/b> What has a man? Tom Brady Quote <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
              • Even in the night we have no rest. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
              • Wise living brings no rest to the heart. “You could have done better”<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                The Major Shift of Solomon’s Teaching <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n
                Vs 24-25 A New Way  <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n

                • Joy in Food, Drink, and Toil? 5 times just like this! <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                • Before food, drink, and toil was meaningless! <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                • What is Solomon telling us? <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                  Jesus Alone Satisfies! <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

                    \n
                  • Everything under the sun fails us. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                  • Nothing in this world can handle the pressure of our worship! <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                  • Solomon’s wisdom and experiment was his best effort of being his own god. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                  • When Jesus is everything to us everything changes! <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                    Vs 24-25 With Christ As Ultimate we can now enjoy life as a gift!  <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

                      \n
                    • Life’s most basic things “Food and Drink and Work” are now seen as a gift not a god! <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                    • The Christian no longer has to misuse food and drink! <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                    • You can have joy! <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                    • \n
                        \n
                      • More people in America sin with food than with drink. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
                      • Stats on obesity a alcohol <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                      • Other sins with food and drink?<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n

                          <\/p>\n
                        • Health freak nazi. <\/span><\/li>\n
                        • No one should ever eat fried chicken!!!! <\/span><\/li>\n

                          Gospel Freedom!<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

                          • Jesus never sinned with food or drink.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                          • He ate and drank responsibly.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Jesus died for your sin of misusing food and drink. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Your forgiven. No condemnation! No condemnation! <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                          • But… Conviction. Walk away from your food or drink worship!<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                            Vs 26 God’s Pleasure<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

                            • Christian you have it!<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
                            • Non- You don’t<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                                                                                                                                                 <\/span><\/u><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
                              Wise living and leaving a legacy won’t satisfy. <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n
