Eccl 4 “Biblical Friendship”<\/b><\/div>\n

Intro: The Need Of True Friendship <\/b><\/div>\n
\n
    \n
  • Prov 27:6 “Faithful are the wounds of fiends; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.”<\/li>\n
  • We need true and redemptive friends.<\/li>\n
  • We were created in the image of a communal God. <\/li>\n
  • We screw up our attempts of friendship and community. <\/li>\n
  • What is Christian Friendship?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Vs 1-3: Who will comfort the hurting? <\/b><\/div>\n

      \n
    • Those oppressed have no one to comfort them. <\/li>\n
    • The powerful oppressors have no one to comfort them. <\/li>\n
    • vs 2-3 Solomon’s youthful response? “Better to be dead than alone, in power or pain<\/span><\/b>” <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      Vs 4-6: Human Rivalry is Destructive <\/b><\/div>\n

        \n
      • Work is about your glory at the mercy of others instead of the Glory of God. <\/li>\n
      • Michael Eaton “Rivalry never produced companionship yet. The precise thought is not that work causes rivalry, but that it stems from rivalry. <\/li>\n
      • We look at other people and want to be better than them instead of loving them. <\/li>\n
      • Self validation is an endless pursuit. <\/li>\n
      • Vs 5 Laziness is not the answer. The lazy man uses up resources without replenishing them. <\/li>\n
      • Vs 6 <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        Vs 7-8: The Vanity of Island Living <\/b><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

        • The man never realizes he is working for himself and himself alone. <\/li>\n
        • A man with a family does this by thinking his family needs money more than him. <\/li>\n
        • Working with selfish ambition in a dead end street. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Vs 9-12 The Power of Biblical Friendship (<\/b>Redemptive Community, Accountability)<\/b><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

          • Two is better than one Horse Quote <\/b><\/span><\/li>\n
          • True and biblical friendship. <\/li>\n
          • A Pit?<\/span><\/b> (Marriage problems, Any sin issue, Porn, Anger, Gossip, Selfishness) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
            A friend that lifts up? <\/b><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

            • Tells you the truth. <\/li>\n
            • Not impressed with you.<\/li>\n
            • Points you to Jesus not your awesomeness. <\/li>\n
            • Proverbs on Friends<\/span><\/b>. <\/li>\n
            • Talks to you not about you. <\/li>\n
            • Friends have thick skin. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
              Woe to the Island Man!<\/b><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

              • If you have no true friends it’s probably cause your a bad friend. <\/li>\n
              • I don’t need anyone. You have no one!<\/li>\n
              • Vs 12 <\/b>3 is even better than 2. The more true friends you have the better. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                Vs 13-16: A Parable of A King Without Friends <\/b><\/div>\n

                • The King was a better man when he was poor an wise. <\/li>\n
                • Vs 15-16 The King was going out.<\/li>\n
                • The king is only remembered as a arrogant man who could not take advice<\/li>\n
                • \n
                    \n
                  • Growing Older does not always mean growing wiser.<\/li>\n
                  • Godliness does not have an age. <\/li>\n
                  • Are you growing more Christlike or not? <\/li>\n
                  • Do you think your more important cause your age?<\/li>\n
                  • Has your family given up on you “He is set in his ways?”<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
                  • 1 Tim 5:1 Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father.<\/b> <\/li>\n

                    • Let your wife or husband be your friend. <\/li>\n
                    • Get some friends who will be honest with you. <\/li>\n
                    • Who is challenging you to finish well?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                      John 15:12-17 Jesus the true Friend   <\/b><\/div>\n

                      • The more you know the friendship of Jesus the better a friend you will be. <\/li>\n
                      • He has loved you. YOU OF ALL PEOPLE!<\/li>\n
                      • Laid down his life for your sorry life. <\/li>\n
                      • Not ashamed to call you friend<\/li>\n
                      • Made known what the Father says<\/li>\n
                      • Chose us, Appointed us to bear fruit and abide in Him<\/li>\n
                      • Answers our prayers. <\/li>\n
